Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa

Pompey’s Pillar

The pillar of Pompey is the biggest monolith column to ever exist outside of Rome. It has a height of 28 m made of red granite and is 2.7 wide. The pillar was named that way because many believe that the remains of General Pompey were located at the top of the pillar.

The only ancient Islamic construction in the entire city of Alexandria Qaitbay citadel was built in 1477 BC in the same location that once held the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria and also constructed from the salvaged rocks of the lighthouse and features amazing Islamic decorations.
